Switching from Mac App Store to Direct Version

How to switch between the Mac App Store and direct-download versions of FIPLAB apps.

Many FIPLAB apps are available on both the Mac App Store (MAS) and as direct downloads from fiplab.com. This article explains how to switch between the two versions.

Note: Some apps such as Battery Health 3 and Window Manager are available exclusively as direct downloads from fiplab.com and do not have a Mac App Store version.

Reasons to Switch

  • The Mac App Store version has sandboxing limitations that may restrict certain features.
  • You prefer to manage your license through Paddle rather than the Mac App Store.
  • You are moving away from the Mac App Store for personal preference.

Switching from Mac App Store to Direct

  1. Purchase or obtain a license from fiplab.com.
  2. Download the latest version of the app from the app's page on fiplab.com.
  3. Quit the Mac App Store version if it is currently running.
  4. Move the Mac App Store version to the Trash.
  5. Move the newly downloaded direct version to /Applications.
  6. Launch the app and enter your license code when prompted.

Switching from Direct to Mac App Store

  1. Purchase the app on the Mac App Store.
  2. Quit the direct version if it is currently running.
  3. Delete the direct version from /Applications.
  4. Install the app from the Mac App Store.

Important Notes

App data is preserved when switching. Both the Mac App Store and direct versions use the same data locations on your Mac, so your settings, history, and other app data will carry over when you switch.

Licenses are separate purchases. A Mac App Store purchase does not include a direct-download license, and a direct-download license does not include a Mac App Store purchase. Each version requires its own purchase.
