Keyboard Shortcuts

CopyClip 2 supports keyboard shortcuts that let you quickly paste clips without reaching for the mouse. The most important shortcuts are the Cmd + Number combinations that appear next to each clip in the list.

How Cmd + Number Pasting Works

Each clip in the CopyClip 2 panel has a number displayed next to it. To paste a clip using its shortcut:

1. Make sure CopyClip 2 is running in the background.
2. Press your hotkey (default is Control + Space Bar) to open the CopyClip 2 panel.
3. Locate the clip you want to paste.
4. Press Cmd plus the number shown next to the clip (for example, Cmd + 1 for the first clip).
5. If Direct Pasting is enabled, the clip will be pasted automatically at your cursor position.
6. If Direct Pasting is not enabled, the clip is copied to your clipboard -- press Cmd + V to paste it.

Setting a Custom Hotkey

You can change the hotkey used to open CopyClip 2:

1. Open Settings by right-clicking the menu bar icon or pressing Cmd + , with the panel open.
2. Under the General tab, click the hotkey field.
3. Press your preferred key combination.

Troubleshooting

The Cmd + Number shortcuts are not working

The Cmd + Number shortcuts only work when the CopyClip 2 panel is open. They will not work if the panel is closed or hidden. Make sure you:

1. Open the CopyClip 2 panel first using the menu bar icon or your hotkey.
2. Then press the Cmd + Number shortcut for the clip you want.

If the shortcuts still do not respond, try the following:

1. Quit CopyClip 2 and reopen it.
2. Check that no other application is intercepting the same keyboard shortcuts.
3. Reset your hotkey in Settings to make sure it is properly configured.

Clips are copied but not pasted automatically

If pressing a Cmd + Number shortcut copies the clip to your clipboard but does not paste it, you need to enable Direct Pasting in Settings. See the Direct Pasting article for setup instructions.
