Scanning Your Drive

After selecting your user folder, you can scan your drive to find files that can be safely removed to free up space.

Starting a Scan

From the main screen, click Start Scan to begin. Disk Doctor examines your drive for junk files across several categories:

• Caches -- Temporary files stored by apps and the system.
• Logs -- System and application log files.
• Trash -- Files sitting in the Trash that have not been permanently deleted.
• Downloads -- Files in your Downloads folder.
• Mail Downloads -- Attachments downloaded by the Mail app.
• Partial Downloads -- Incomplete or interrupted downloads.

Scan Duration

Scanning can take anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes depending on the size and type of your drive. Larger drives and spinning hard disks will generally take longer than smaller SSDs.

After the Scan

Once the scan is complete, Disk Doctor presents a breakdown of what it found, organized by category. See the Cleaning article for details on reviewing and removing files.
