Getting Started with Disk Map

Learn how to set up Disk Map and select a folder to begin visualizing your disk usage.

Disk Map provides an interactive treemap visualization of your storage, making it easy to see exactly what is consuming space on your drive. This article covers how to select a folder and run your first scan.

Selecting a Folder to Scan

When you launch Disk Map, you are prompted to choose a folder to analyze.

  1. Click Select a folder to open a Finder window.
  2. Choose the folder you want to scan and click Choose.
  3. If you change your mind, click Clear Selection to pick a different folder.
  4. When you are ready, click Next to begin the scan.

Scanning

Disk Map scans all files and folders within your selected folder to build the treemap. Scanning can take anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes depending on the size of the folder and the type of your drive.

When the scan is complete, click Next to view the treemap. See the Treemap Navigation article to learn how to explore and manage your files.
