Getting Started with Download Shuttle
Learn what Download Shuttle is, how to launch it for the first time, and how to add your first download.
What Is Download Shuttle?
Download Shuttle is a download accelerator and manager for Mac. It uses multi-segmented downloading, which means each file is split into smaller parts that are downloaded simultaneously. This maximizes your bandwidth and results in significantly faster download speeds compared to a standard browser download.
First Launch
When you first open Download Shuttle, you will see an empty download list. To start downloading files, click the Add button (the + icon) in the top-left corner of the app window.
Adding a Download
-
Click the Add button to open the new download dialog.

-
In the Download URL field, paste the URL of the file you want to download.
-
Use the Download To field to choose where the file will be saved. By default, this is set to your Mac's Downloads folder.
-
Optionally edit the Filename field to rename the file before downloading.
-
Set the Total Segments to control how many parts the file is split into. A higher number of segments generally means faster downloads, as more of your bandwidth is used at once.
-
Toggle Start Immediately on if you want the download to begin as soon as you click Add. If your download requires server authentication, enable Requires Authentication and enter your credentials.
-
Click Add to begin the download.
Tip: For large files, increasing the segment count can make a noticeable difference in download speed.
Viewing Download Progress
Once a download begins, it appears on the main download list. The progress bar is divided into columns representing each segment being downloaded.

When a download completes, you will see the total file size, elapsed time, and average download speed. A notification will also appear in the top-right corner of your screen confirming the download is finished.
