Understanding Scan Results
Learn how to navigate scan results in Duplicate Detective 2, including file categories, preview, sorting, and Auto Select.
Overview
Once a scan is complete, Duplicate Detective 2 presents an overview of all duplicate files found. From this screen you can browse, filter, preview, and select duplicates for removal.

File Categories
By default, results are shown under the All Files view. You can filter results by file type using the category tabs in the left-hand column:
- Folders
- Images
- Documents
- Videos
- Audios
- Others
Selecting a category shows only the duplicates of that type, making it easier to work through large sets of results.
Searching and Sorting
Use the search bar to locate a specific file or file type by name. You can further sort your results by:
- Size
- Type
- Name
- Count
- Selected
Each of these can be toggled between ascending and descending order.
Previewing Files
Click on any file in the results list to see a preview in the right-hand panel. This lets you verify the contents of a file before deciding whether to keep or remove it.
Click the magnifying glass icon to reveal the file's location in Finder.
Auto Select
The Auto Select button is a productivity feature that automatically selects duplicate copies for removal while keeping one version of each file. It works with whatever view you currently have active -- if you have filtered by a specific category or folder, Auto Select will only apply to the visible results.
Tip: You can configure Auto Select to prefer keeping either the oldest or newest version of a file. Open Settings (press Cmd + ,) to change this setting.
