Scanning for Duplicate Files
Learn how to choose folders and run a duplicate file scan in Duplicate Detective 2.
Choosing Folders to Scan
When you launch Duplicate Detective 2, you can select which folders to scan for duplicates.
- Click the Add Folders button.
- In the folder selection window that appears, navigate to the folder you want to scan and click Select.
- Repeat to add additional folders if needed.

To remove a folder from the list, click on it and press the Remove Selected button.
Starting a Scan
Once you have added your folders, click the Next button in the bottom-right corner of the app window. The scan will begin immediately.

During the scan you will see the number of files being processed along with the Scan Log. A folder containing a large number of files will take considerably more time to scan than a smaller one.
Tip: You can press the Cancel button to stop an ongoing scan at any time.
Scan Tips
- For the most complete results, grant Full Disk Access before scanning. See the Full Disk Access guide for instructions.
- You can adjust the minimum file size and excluded file extensions in Settings (press Cmd + ,) to fine-tune which files are included in your scan.
- Scanning your entire disk will take longer than scanning individual folders. Start with specific folders if you want faster results.
