Overview

Extractor supports over 70 archive formats out of the box. No additional plugins or codecs are needed. Drop any supported archive onto Extractor and the format is detected automatically.

Common Formats

  • ZIP -- the most common archive format
  • RAR -- widely used for compressed file distribution
  • 7z -- high-compression format from 7-Zip
  • TAR -- Unix tape archive, often combined with compression
  • GZIP (GZ) -- commonly used alongside TAR on Unix systems
  • BZIP2 (BZ2) -- alternative compression often paired with TAR
  • XZ -- high-ratio compression format
  • ISO -- disc image archives
  • CAB -- Windows cabinet archives

Automatic Format Detection

Extractor identifies the archive format automatically when you open or drop a file. You do not need to select a format manually or install any format-specific plugins. If the format is supported, Extractor will handle it.

Password-Protected Formats

Extractor also handles password-protected archives for the following formats:

  • ZIP
  • RAR
  • 7z
