Applying and Restoring Folder Icons

Learn how to apply your custom folder icon design to a folder and how to restore a folder to its default icon.

Once you have finished designing your custom folder icon in Folder Designer, you can apply it to any folder on your Mac. You can also restore folders back to their default macOS icon at any time.

Applying a Custom Icon

  1. Click "Apply to a Folder" at the bottom of the design window.
  2. Select the folder you want to customize in the Finder window that appears.
  3. Click "Choose".

The folder icon will update. In some cases, the change may take a moment to appear or may require a system restart.

Restoring the Default Icon

  1. Click "Restore a Folder" at the bottom of the design window.
  2. Select the previously customized folder in the Finder window that appears.
  3. Click "Choose".

The folder will be reset to its default macOS icon.
