How to Back Up Your App Data and Settings

Learn how to create a backup of your FIPLAB app data and preferences on your Mac.

Why Back Up?

If you're planning to migrate to a new Mac, reinstall macOS, or just want peace of mind, it's a good idea to back up your app data and preferences. Most FIPLAB apps store their data in a Containers folder on your Mac, making it straightforward to create a manual backup.

How to Back Up Your App Data

  1. Open Finder.
  2. In the menu bar, click Go and then select Go to Folder (or press Cmd + Shift + G).
  3. Type the following path and press Enter:
    ~/Library/Containers

  4. Locate the folder for the app you want to back up. Each app has a folder named after its bundle identifier. For example:
    • CopyClip 2: com.fiplab.copyclip2
    • Battery Health 3: com.fiplab.batteryhealth3
  5. Copy the entire folder to your backup drive, external storage, or cloud service.

Restoring a Backup

To restore your data, simply copy the backed-up folder back into ~/Library/Containers, replacing the existing folder. Make sure the app is not running before you restore.

Tip: If you use Time Machine, your Containers folder is typically included in automatic backups. You can use Time Machine to restore individual app folders if needed.

What About iCloud Sync?

Some FIPLAB apps support iCloud sync, which keeps your data in sync across multiple Macs automatically. Check the app's preferences to see if iCloud sync is available and enabled. If it is, you may not need a manual backup at all.
