Battery Health 3 is a professional battery monitoring utility for viewing vital statistics about your MacBook's and iOS device's battery, such as power level, heath, capacity, temperature, charge cycles and more.
First Launch & Using the App:
The app functions as a menubar app. This means that as soon as you download the app and launch it, it’ll appear in the top menubar on your Mac’s screen as a small battery icon with a charge level percentage next to it.
Upon click on the battery icon in the menubar, the app will expand and present you a much more comprehensive overview of your MacBook’s battery.
The first section within the overview app window is ‘Charge Details’. To get a more detailed explanation of each section within this menu, click on the question mark icon to the right hand side of the Charge Details section. This will present you the following information:
Under this section is the comprehensive ‘Battery Details’ section. Again, click on the corresponding question mark to be presented with more information on this, as seen below:
The ‘Energy Hogs’ section shows you which apps are using the most energy over a five minute period on your Mac. You can subsequently quit these apps to reduce energy consumption, should you please, and help prolong your battery life.
The ‘Power History’ section is a vital tool to analyse your battery performance. Click on the ‘View’ button next to the Power History title to open three different charts that display power, charge and health history, as seen below. Use this data to develop charging and usage habits that help to sustain a high and healthy battery life.
Adding in a mobile iOS device (iPhone/iPad) for battery monitoring:
Battery Health 3 allows you to gain vital battery statistics for an iOS device such as an iPhone or iPad, and connecting your device occurs in one of two ways:
i) Connecting over Wifi:
To allow Battery Health 3 to access your iOS device over WiFi, please open iTunes on your Mac and select your iOS device. Then enable the “Sync with this iPhone/iPad over Wi-Fi" option at the bottom of the Summary page on iTunes. Finally, press the 'Done' button.
Please note that you will need to unlock your phone when prompted and that Battery Health 3 will only be able to access your device battery information when it is turned on and unlocked.
ii) Connecting over USB:
To connect over USB, simply connect your iOS device to your Mac and give permission for your Mac to communicate with your device.
After your iOS device has been connected, you can select to view the device's battery information by selecting the device via Battery Health 3's dropdown:
Preferences:
To access the Preferences panel within the app, click on the ‘gear’ icon on the top right corner of the app window and select ‘Preferences’.
The Preferences menu lets you select a range of functions to run the app to your tastes. The general preferences allow you to edit such things as launching the app at login, the app icon appearing on your dock, etc. You can also choose to edit the way in which the battery information appears on your menubar. Further, you can toggle between a light and dark theme to suit your style.
Lastly, if you have previously used an earlier version of Battery Health (for which we thank you for your loyalty!), then click on the ‘Import’ button next to ‘Import History from an older Battery Health’. This will automatically and quickly import all previous battery statistics from your system.
Under the Notifications section in Preferences, you are presented with a range of options to edit just how you would prefer the app to notify you at various battery charge levels on your Mac.
Firstly, you can edit the notification sound. Thereafter, you can also get notifications for a low battery (at 5% battery charge life remaining), reminders for significant drops in battery levels and furthermore, also get alerts for battery life and charging levels that you have manually selected using the slider bar.
