Disk Doctor Pro is our ultra-powerful disk cleaning app that is capable of removing gigabytes of unneeded files from your Mac within a matter of a few minutes.
Launching the App and Performing a Scan:
When you launch Disk Doctor Pro, the app gets straight to work and automatically scans your hard drive. The scanning process can take anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes depending on the size of your drive and the nature of your drive (Solid State Drives will scan faster than a normal Hard Drive). The spinning icons next to each category being scanned shows that the scan is still ongoing, so please be patient.
Clearing up Space on your Mac:
We always recommend that you make a Time Machine back up before progressing with clearing unneeded contents from your Mac. Here’s how: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201250
Once Disk Doctor Pro has performed a full scan, you will see a full overview of what is causing the clutter on your Mac, similar to what is seen below.
On the left hand sidebar, you will notice all the different sections that have been scanned, the results found and what you can consequently select to remove from your Mac. You can enable/disable each section by clicking on the toggle button. The button goes green when a section has been enabled. Furthermore, you can then use the checkboxes within each section to select individual files for removal.
Please see the image below of the ‘Application Caches’ section being highlighted and files being selected within it for removal.
You can choose to individually select files for removal via the checkbox next to each file. Also, you can hover over over a particular file and the magnifying glass that appears beside it will direct you to the exact location of that file if it is clicked. The file size corresponding to a particular file is listed as well.
You can display the files within a field by their ascending or descending size. In addition to that, you can choose to quickly select or deselect all files for removal as well.
Once you start to select sections and the files within them for removal, you will notice an overall count of the space that will be freed up will appear at the bottom left corner of the app window.
Once you are satisfied with the files that you have selected for removal, click on the blue ‘Remove Selected Files’ button on the bottom right corner of the app window.
You will be recommended to carry out a Time Machine backup as files removed by Disk Doctor Pro are permanently deleted. After this, press ‘Clean’ to carry out the removal of your unneeded files.
Once the removal of the files is complete, you will be presented with a display where your results are shown. The results show the total size of the files successfully removed along with the new total size of the free space on your Mac’s hard drive. You can then quit the app or scan again.
Preferences:
You can access Disk Doctor Pro’s Preferences menu by hitting Cmd + , (Command and Comma) on your keyboard when the app window is open. Here, you can choose to set the visual theme of the app to either Light or Dark from the drop down menu seen below:
