Magic Trail Settings

The Settings panel gives you full control over Magic Trail's behaviour and appearance. To open it, click the Magic Trail menu bar icon and select Settings, or press Cmd+,.

General Settings

Toggle with Hotkey

Assign a custom keyboard shortcut to quickly enable or disable the trail effect without reaching for the menu bar. Click the hotkey field and press your desired key combination.

Start at Login

When enabled, Magic Trail launches automatically when your Mac starts up. This ensures the trail effect is always available without needing to manually open the app.

Hide Settings on Startup

When enabled, the Settings window will not appear each time the app launches. Magic Trail will start silently in the background with the trail effect active.

Trail Settings

Enable Mouse Trail

Turn the trail effect on or off. This is the same as the toggle in the menu bar dropdown.

Trail Style

Select from the 12 available trail styles using the dropdown menu. See the Trail Styles article for a full list.

Trail Length

Use the slider to control how far the trail extends behind your cursor. Drag left for a shorter trail, right for a longer one.

Trail Size

Use the slider to control the size of the trail particles.

Hide Trail When Mouse is Not Moving

When enabled, the trail particles fade away when your cursor stops and reappear the instant you move again. When disabled, the trail animation continues even while the cursor is stationary.

Left-Handed Mode

Flips the trail direction for left-handed mouse setups.

Troubleshooting

The Settings window keeps appearing on launch

Open Settings and enable the Hide Settings on Startup option.
