Understanding Memory Details

Memory Overview

When you open the Memory Clean 3 window, the top section displays your current free memory along with a color-coded graph. Each color represents a different category of memory usage on your Mac.

The Details Panel

Below the main memory figure and graph, you will see a ? icon next to the word Details. Click this to expand the Details panel, which explains what each memory category means.

The Details panel breaks down your Mac's memory into categories such as:

• Free -- Memory that is completely unused and immediately available.
• Active -- Memory currently in use by running apps and processes.
• Inactive -- Memory that was recently used but is no longer needed. This is the primary target when you clean memory.
• Wired -- Memory reserved by macOS that cannot be freed or compressed.
• Compressed -- Memory that macOS has compressed to make more room.

Tip: The Details panel is a helpful reference if you want to understand exactly how your Mac is allocating its RAM before deciding to run a clean.
