Duration Modes
How to use preset durations, indefinite mode, and sleep modes in Owly
Preset Durations
Owly offers preset durations so you can keep your Mac awake for a specific period of time. Available durations are:
- 5 minutes
- 10 minutes
- 15 minutes
- 30 minutes
- 1 hour
- 2 hours
- 4 hours
- 6 hours
- 8 hours
Select any duration from the grid in the menu panel. The countdown is displayed in the menu bar and as a dock badge so you always know when sleep prevention will expire.
Indefinite Mode
If you need your Mac to stay awake with no time limit, select the infinity option from the duration grid. Owly will keep your Mac awake until you manually disable it.
Sleep Modes
Owly supports two sleep modes, which you can switch between in the menu panel:
- Keep Awake -- Prevents both the system and the display from sleeping. The screen stays on and active.
- Allow Display Sleep -- Prevents the system from sleeping but allows the display to turn off after its normal timeout. This is useful when you want a background task to continue running without keeping the screen lit.
Battery Protection
Owly includes a battery threshold feature that automatically disables sleep prevention when your battery charge drops below a level you specify. This prevents Owly from draining your battery to zero during long sessions when you are not connected to power.
Start Screensaver
You can launch your screensaver directly from the Owly menu panel by selecting Start Screensaver. Owly disables sleep prevention automatically when you start the screensaver.
