Automatic Mode in Paste Plain Text

Paste Plain Text offers two modes of operation: automatic and manual. You can switch between them depending on how you prefer to work.

Automatic Mode (Default)

With automatic mode enabled, formatting is stripped from every piece of text you copy, continuously and in the background. There is nothing extra you need to do -- just copy text from any source (a webpage, email, document, or anywhere else) and paste it. The result will always be clean, plain text.

To enable automatic mode:

1. Click the Paste Plain Text icon in the menu bar.
2. Select Settings.
3. Enable Automatically Clear Formatting.

Manual Mode

If you prefer to keep formatting intact most of the time and only strip it on demand, you can disable automatic mode. In manual mode:

1. Copy text as usual from any source.
2. Click the Paste Plain Text menu bar icon.
3. Select Paste as Plain Text to strip the current clipboard contents.
4. Paste as normal. The result will be plain text.

To switch to manual mode:

1. Click the Paste Plain Text icon in the menu bar.
2. Select Settings.
3. Disable Automatically Clear Formatting.

When to Use Each Mode

Automatic mode is ideal if you almost always want plain text. It works silently in the background and requires no extra steps.

Manual mode is better if you frequently need to preserve formatting and only want to strip it occasionally. It gives you full control over when formatting is removed.

Pasting Formatted Text While in Automatic Mode

If you are in automatic mode and need to paste with formatting intact, quit Paste Plain Text temporarily, paste your formatted text, then relaunch the app.
