Built-in File Actions

Overview

Power Menu comes with a set of built-in actions that you can enable or disable from the Manage Actions screen within the app. Each action can be toggled on or off -- a green indicator means the action is currently enabled.

Some actions are file-specific. For example, the Convert Image action will only appear when you right-click on an image file.

Available Actions

Copy File Path to Clipboard

Copies the full file path of the selected file or folder to your Mac's clipboard. This works with multiple selections, so you can copy several paths at once.

Move to a Folder

Quickly move the selected file or folder to a destination of your choice. You can add custom destination folders by clicking the + icon in the top-right corner of the action's settings.

Copy to a Folder

Works the same way as Move to a Folder, except it creates a copy of the original file in the destination folder rather than moving it.

Open With

Open the selected file with a specific application. Use the + icon to add applications to your Open With list.

Open New Finder Window

Opens a new Finder window or tab at a specific location. You can configure which locations are available in the action's settings.

Create a New File

Create a new file from one of 22 built-in file templates. See the File Templates article for more details.

Convert Image

Quickly convert an image file to a different format. This action only appears when an image file is selected.

Send via Email

Send the selected file as an attachment using your default email client. This requires an email client that supports the macOS sharing system.

Secure Delete

Permanently and securely delete the selected file. Files removed with this action cannot be recovered.

Use Secure Delete with caution. Once a file has been securely deleted, it cannot be restored.

Reset App Settings

Reset the selected application's preferences back to their default settings.

New Terminal Tab Here

Opens a new tab in Terminal at the current folder location.

New Terminal Window Here

Opens a new Terminal window at the current folder location.

Edit with Vim

Opens the selected file in Vim within Terminal, ready for editing.

Show Hidden Files in Finder

Reveals hidden files and folders in Finder.

Hide Hidden Files in Finder

Hides previously revealed hidden files and folders in Finder.

Enabling and Disabling Actions

1. Open the Power Menu app.
2. Go to the Manage Actions screen.
3. Toggle individual actions on or off using the switch next to each action.

Only enabled actions will appear in your Finder right-click menu and toolbar.
