Creating New Files from Templates
Learn how to use Power Menu's 22 built-in file templates to quickly create new files directly from Finder.
Overview
Power Menu includes 22 built-in file templates that let you create new files directly from the Finder right-click menu. Instead of opening an application first and then saving a new file, you can right-click in any Finder location and instantly create a new file in the format you need.
How to Create a New File
- Right-click on a folder or within a Finder window.
- Select the Create a New File action from the Power Menu context menu.
- Choose the file type you want to create from the list of available templates.
- A new file will be created in the current location, ready for you to rename and edit.
Managing File Templates
You can choose which file templates appear in the right-click menu:
- Open the Power Menu app.
- Go to the Manage Actions screen.
- Select the Create a New File action.
- Tick the checkbox under the Enabled column next to each file type you want to make available.

Only enabled file types will appear in the Create a New File submenu when you right-click in Finder.
If you frequently work with a specific file type, enable just the templates you use most to keep the menu clean and fast.
