Getting Started with Power Menu

Learn what Power Menu is, how to enable the Finder extension, and how to use it for the first time.

What is Power Menu?

Power Menu is a Finder extension that adds powerful actions to the right-click context menu and toolbar within Finder. It makes it quick and easy to perform common file operations such as copying file paths, moving files, creating new documents, converting images, and much more.

You can also create your own custom actions using shell scripts, making Power Menu as flexible as you need it to be.

Enabling the Finder Extension

When you first launch Power Menu, the app will automatically enable its Finder extension. If the extension is not active, you can enable it manually:

  1. Open System Settings on your Mac.
  2. Navigate to Extensions in the sidebar.
  3. Click Added Extensions.
  4. Find Power Menu in the list and make sure it is toggled on.
  5. If prompted, restart Finder or log out and back in for the change to take effect.

If the Power Menu actions do not appear in your right-click menu after enabling the extension, try restarting your Mac.

Using Power Menu

Once Power Menu is enabled, you can access its actions in two ways:

Right-Click Context Menu

Right-click on any file or folder in Finder, and you will see Power Menu actions available in the context menu.

Finder Toolbar

Power Menu also adds an icon to your Finder toolbar, giving you quick access to the same actions without needing to right-click.

The toolbar icon lets you run the same customizable actions as the right-click menu.

When you open the Power Menu app, you will see the main window where you can manage your actions, configure file templates, set up custom actions, and adjust preferences.
