Auto-Paste for Text Snippets

Learn how to use the auto-paste feature in Shortcut Bar to automatically paste text snippets into the active text field.

The auto-paste feature lets you insert text snippets directly into whatever you are typing, without needing to manually paste from the clipboard.

How It Works

When auto-paste is enabled, clicking a text snippet shortcut in the Shortcut Bar dropdown will:

  1. Copy the snippet text to your clipboard.
  2. Automatically paste the text into the currently active text field.

This saves you a step compared to the default behavior, which only copies the text to your clipboard and requires you to press Cmd + V to paste it.

Enabling Auto-Paste

  1. Open Settings by right-clicking the Shortcut Bar icon in your menu bar and selecting Settings.
  2. Locate the auto-paste setting.
  3. Toggle it on.

Once enabled, all text snippet shortcuts will auto-paste when clicked.

When to Use Auto-Paste

Auto-paste works best when you:

  • Frequently insert the same text into forms, emails, or documents.
  • Use standard replies, email signatures, or code snippets throughout your day.
  • Want a one-click workflow instead of click-then-paste.

Make sure the cursor is placed in a text field before clicking a text snippet. Auto-paste will attempt to paste into whatever field is currently active.
