Exporting and Importing Shortcuts

Learn how to export your Shortcut Bar shortcuts and import them on another Mac.

Shortcut Bar supports exporting your shortcuts so you can transfer them to another Mac or create a backup.

Exporting Shortcuts

You can export your shortcuts by dragging them out of the Manage Shortcuts panel in Settings. This creates a file that contains your shortcut data.

  1. Open Settings and go to the Manage Shortcuts tab.
  2. Select the shortcuts or groups you want to export.
  3. Drag them out of the panel to a location in Finder, such as your Desktop or an external drive.

Importing Shortcuts

To import shortcuts on another Mac:

  1. Copy the exported shortcut file to the new Mac.
  2. Open Shortcut Bar and go to Settings > Manage Shortcuts.
  3. Drag the exported file into the Manage Shortcuts panel.

Make sure Shortcut Bar is installed on the destination Mac before importing.

Manual Backup

You can also back up your Shortcut Bar data manually by copying the app's container folder:

  1. Open Finder.
  2. In the menu bar, click Go and then select Go to Folder (or press Cmd + Shift + G).
  3. Type the following path and press Enter: 
    ~/Library/Containers
  4. Locate the Shortcut Bar folder and copy it to your backup location.

To restore, copy the folder back to the same location on the new Mac, making sure Shortcut Bar is not running before you restore.
