Types of Shortcuts

Shortcut Bar supports several types of shortcuts, each designed for a different kind of quick action.

Apps, Files, and Folders

These shortcuts let you quickly open an application, file, or folder. When you click one of these shortcuts in the dropdown menu, the item will either open directly or be revealed in Finder, depending on your Menu Click Action setting in Settings.

• App shortcuts launch the selected application.
• File shortcuts open the file in its default application.
• Folder shortcuts open the folder in Finder.

Web Links

Web link shortcuts open a specific URL in your browser when clicked. You can use these to bookmark frequently visited websites, dashboards, or web tools.

When adding a web link, Shortcut Bar may present a browser picker so you can choose which browser to use.

Text Snippets

Text snippet shortcuts store pieces of text that you use frequently, such as email signatures, code blocks, or standard replies. When you click a text snippet shortcut:

1. The text is copied to your clipboard.
2. If Auto-Paste is enabled, the text is automatically pasted into the currently active text field.

Color Swatches

Color swatch shortcuts let you save your favorite colors. Clicking a color swatch copies its color code to your clipboard in your preferred format, making it easy to paste into an image editor, code editor, or design tool.

System Commands

System command shortcuts give you one-click access to common macOS actions, such as emptying the Trash, toggling Do Not Disturb, or putting your Mac to sleep.
