Shelf Management

The Space Drop shelf is a floating panel that holds your files temporarily during drag-and-drop operations. You can configure where it appears, how it behaves, and what it looks like.

Shelf Position

You can position the Space Drop shelf at various locations around your screen. Right-click the menu bar icon to select from available positions, including the left edge, right edge, top, bottom, and corner positions. Choose the position that best fits your workflow and screen layout.

Window Behaviour

The Window Behaviour section of Settings controls how and when the shelf appears.

By default, the shelf automatically appears when you begin dragging a file and hides when you stop. You can also configure it to appear only when triggered by:

• A keyboard shortcut.
• Moving your cursor to a specific screen edge.

App Exceptions

You can set up an exception list to control which apps trigger or suppress the Space Drop shelf. To add an app to the exception list, click the "+" button at the bottom of the Window Behaviour panel.

Once added, apps appear in the exception list where you can configure them individually.

This is useful if certain apps have their own drag-and-drop behaviour that conflicts with Space Drop, or if you want the shelf to appear only when working in specific apps.

Appearance

The Appearance section of Settings lets you customise the look of the shelf.

• Background colour -- Choose any colour for the shelf background using the full macOS colour picker.
• Opacity -- Adjust the transparency of the shelf window with the opacity slider. Lower opacity allows you to see content behind the shelf.
• Animations -- Enable or disable the slide-in and slide-out animations when the shelf appears and disappears.

Recommendations

• Adjust the shelf opacity so it remains visible without obscuring your work.
• If you frequently move files between the same apps, set up the exception list so the shelf only appears where you need it.
• Choose a shelf position that does not interfere with your most-used applications.
