App Not Responding or Freezing
Steps to fix a FIPLAB app that is frozen, unresponsive, or not launching properly.
If a FIPLAB app is frozen, unresponsive, or not launching properly, work through the following steps in order.
1. Force Quit the App
- Right-click the app icon in the Dock and select Force Quit.
- Alternatively, press Cmd + Option + Esc to open the Force Quit window, select the app, and click Force Quit.
2. Restart the App
After force quitting, relaunch the app normally from the Dock, Applications folder, or Launchpad.
3. Restart Your Mac
If the app is still unresponsive after relaunching, restart your Mac. Go to the Apple menu and select Restart.
4. Check for Updates
- Mac App Store version: Open the Mac App Store and go to the Updates tab. Install any available updates for the app.
- Direct version: Visit fiplab.com and download the latest version of the app.
Running an outdated version can cause compatibility issues, especially after a macOS update.
5. Reset App Settings
If the app continues to have problems, resetting its preferences may help.
- Quit the app.
- Open Finder and press Cmd + Shift + G to open Go to Folder.
- Type
~/Library/Preferences/and press Enter. - Find the file named
com.fiplab.[appname].plist(replace [appname] with the name of the app). - Move that file to the Trash.
- Relaunch the app. It will create a new preferences file with default settings.
6. Check for Crash Logs
If the app crashes on launch, you can find crash logs in Console.app.
- Open Console.app from /Applications/Utilities.
- In the left sidebar, look under Crash Reports.
- Search for the app name to find relevant crash logs.
7. Verify macOS Compatibility
Make sure you are running a macOS version that the app supports. Check the app's page on fiplab.com for minimum macOS requirements.
