How to Find and Send a Crash Report
Learn how to locate crash reports on your Mac and send them to FIPLAB support for troubleshooting.
If one of our apps is crashing on your Mac, we're sorry about that -- we'd love to help you get it sorted out. To investigate the issue, we'll need a copy of the crash report that macOS generates automatically when an app crashes.
Before you begin, please make sure you're running the latest version of the app from the Mac App Store. If the crash still occurs after updating, follow the steps below to locate and send us the crash log.
Method 1: Using Finder (Quickest)
- Open Finder.
- From the menu bar, click Go > Go to Folder... (or press Cmd+Shift+G).
- Paste the following path and press Enter:
~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/ - Look for files that start with the name of the app that crashed. They will have a
.ipsor.crashextension and include a date in the filename. - Sort the files by Date Modified to find the most recent one.
- Copy the crash report file to your Desktop so you can easily attach it to your support ticket.
Method 2: Using the Console App
- Open the Console app (search for it using Spotlight by pressing Cmd+Space and typing "Console").
- In the left sidebar, click Crash Reports.
- Browse the list for entries matching the name of the app that crashed.
- Select the crash report to view its contents.
- Right-click on the crash report and choose Reveal in Finder to locate the file.
- Copy it to your Desktop so you can attach it to your support ticket.
Sending the Crash Report to Us
Once you've located the crash report file, please send it via our contact form or attach it to your existing support ticket. If possible, include a brief description of what you were doing when the crash occurred -- this helps us pinpoint the issue much faster.
Tip: If you see multiple crash reports for the same app, please send us the most recent one. If the crash happens repeatedly, sending two or three recent reports can be even more helpful.
Can't Find a Crash Report?
If you don't see any crash reports in the DiagnosticReports folder, the app may have frozen or quit unexpectedly without generating a formal crash log. In that case, please contact us with as much detail as you can about what happened, including:
- The name and version of the app
- Your macOS version (click the Apple menu > About This Mac)
- What you were doing when the issue occurred
- Any error messages you saw on screen
