Default Keyboard Shortcuts

A reference of the default keyboard shortcuts in Window Manager for snapping windows to halves, thirds, quarters, and more.

Overview

Window Manager lets you move and resize the active window instantly using keyboard shortcuts. Every shortcut can be customized to your liking -- see Custom Shortcuts for instructions -- but the app ships with a set of sensible defaults to get you started right away.

Window Positions

Below is a summary of the window positions available through keyboard shortcuts.

Halves

  • Left Half -- Snaps the window to the left half of the screen.
  • Right Half -- Snaps the window to the right half of the screen.
  • Top Half -- Snaps the window to the top half of the screen.
  • Bottom Half -- Snaps the window to the bottom half of the screen.

Thirds

  • Left Third -- Resizes the window to one-third of the screen on the left.
  • Center Third -- Resizes the window to one-third of the screen in the center.
  • Right Third -- Resizes the window to one-third of the screen on the right.
  • Left Two Thirds -- Resizes the window to two-thirds of the screen on the left.
  • Right Two Thirds -- Resizes the window to two-thirds of the screen on the right.

Quarters

  • Top Left Quarter -- Snaps the window to the top-left quarter of the screen.
  • Top Right Quarter -- Snaps the window to the top-right quarter of the screen.
  • Bottom Left Quarter -- Snaps the window to the bottom-left quarter of the screen.
  • Bottom Right Quarter -- Snaps the window to the bottom-right quarter of the screen.

Other Positions

  • Maximize -- Expands the window to fill the entire screen (without entering fullscreen mode).
  • Center -- Moves the window to the center of the screen without changing its size.
  • Move to Next Display -- Moves the window to the next connected display, preserving its size and relative position.

Viewing Your Shortcuts

To see the current keyboard shortcut assigned to each position:

  1. Open Window Manager's Settings window.
  2. Click the Shortcuts tab.
  3. Each position is listed alongside its assigned shortcut.

Tip: You can use the menu bar dropdown as a quick reference too. Click the Window Manager icon in the menu bar and each position will show its shortcut on the right side of the menu.
