Settings Overview

A guide to all the settings available in Window Manager's Settings window.

Opening Settings

To open the Settings window, click the Window Manager icon in the menu bar and select Settings, or launch the app directly from your Applications folder.

Welcome Tab

The Welcome tab is the first thing you see after granting Accessibility permission. It confirms that Window Manager is set up and ready to use.

Settings Tab

The Settings tab lets you control the general behavior of the app. Each option is toggled with a checkbox.

Available Settings

  • Start at login -- Launches Window Manager automatically when your Mac starts up. This is recommended so the app is always available.
  • Hide Settings window on startup -- Prevents the Settings window from appearing each time the app launches.
  • Show dock icon -- Displays the Window Manager icon in the Dock. Uncheck this if you prefer a cleaner Dock and only want the menu bar icon.
  • Show menubar icon -- Displays the Window Manager icon in the menu bar. This gives you quick access to all window positions from the top of your screen.
  • Enable hot corners -- Allows you to drag windows to the edges and corners of your screen to snap them into position. See the Snap Areas article for details.
  • Enable fullscreen button overlay on hover -- Adds a quick-pick overlay when you hover over a window's green fullscreen button, letting you choose from popular window arrangements.
  • Enable error messages -- Shows a notification when a window cannot be resized. Some apps have minimum size restrictions that prevent certain arrangements (for example, the Mac App Store window cannot be resized to a third of the screen).

Tip: If you disable both the dock icon and the menu bar icon, you can still access Settings by launching Window Manager from your Applications folder.

Shortcuts Tab

The Shortcuts tab is where you view and customize all keyboard shortcuts for window positioning. It also includes the Custom Size option, which lets you define a specific window size by percentage or absolute pixel dimensions.

When the menu bar icon is enabled, clicking it reveals a dropdown list of all available window positions. Selecting a position from the list will instantly move and resize your active window.

The dropdown also displays the keyboard shortcut for each position, making it a handy reference.
